A message from Executive Director, Pastor Cheryl Mitchell Gaines:
EDEN remains a fixture in the far Southeast community, and needs resources to expand its programming. Our mission is far from finished, as unemployment rates in Ward 8 persist at the highest of any ward in the city and as food insecurity has grown with the absence of healthy affordable food options. Our dedication has only increased the need for us to be accountable for making the change we want to see. And we need your help to do it!
This summer we are blessed to host 20+ young employees in partnership with the District of Columbia’s Marion Barry Summer Youth Employment Program and Project Director Reverend Loretta Rials has returned to facilitate the growth of EDEN and the matriculation of the summer youth employees through our program. But, there’s more. This year, in partnership with American University, longtime volunteer Kwesi Billups will join the summer staff as a Program Coordinator and supervisor. He brings with him experience in fundraising, website development, urban agriculture, design skills, as well as a passion for the community. This development holds promise for the future of EDEN’s employment process, as we now can host experienced college students in partnership with a renowned D.C. academic institution. As always, we are grateful for your ongoing support and invite you to keep in touch and donate today via the buttons below!
Helping youth to eat, live, and grow healthy!
